About Us

Friends of the Ullswater Way

Friends of the Ullswater way began as a local group working with the five parishes around the lake. Our aim is to celebrate all that makes the Ullswater Valley special - the grandeur and beauty of its landscape, its history and traditions, the people who live and work here and those who are and have been inspired by the area.

Our first project was to work with local craftspeople and artists to create the Ullswater Way Heritage Trail - 12 heritage-themed installations along the Ullswater Way each celebrating an aspect of the valley, each in harmony with the natural surroundings.

In August 2019 Friends of the Ullswater Way was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), registration number 1185056. Details of the Charitable Objects, Trustees and Administrative Information can be found at the charity register.

The charities focus is on four areas:

  • Fostering a better collective knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the history and cultural heritage of the Ullswater Valley

  • Encouraging walking and exploration of the valley

  • Establishing community heritage centres

  • Promoting artistic and cultural activities to inspire current and future generations

We are keen to hear from anyone who would like to be more involved in the Friends of the Ullswater Way, or who has ideas and suggestions. If you would like to know more about us, help us with future projects, offer your services, or make a donation towards our work please get in touch with us.
