More about William Henry Nutter

William Henry Nutter was born in Carlisle in 1819 into something of an artistic dynasty. His grandfather was Henry Nutter and William was taught by his Father - Matthew Ellis Nutter. By the age of 11 he was exhibiting at the Carlisle Academy. He himself was teaching at his own school from a young age and he specialised in architectural, landscape and sporting pictures. He lived in Carlisle choosing to remain a regional artist, painting views mainly across Cumbria and the Scottish Border country. Ill health forced him to seek a warmer climate and he died in Malaga, Spain in 1872.
